Being a parent of Hinesight mentee
We believe in mentoring with a purpose.
What do we focus on with our mentees
Hinesight’s mentors also focus on intertwining a structured, activities-based curriculum into the relationship and the time the mentor and mentee spend together.
Through community conversations and best-practice research, we have geared our curriculum to focus on 5 areas of development to help our mentees cultivate:
- Social Competencies
- Commitment to Learning
- Positive Identity
- Empowerment
- Positive Values
Our curriculum
We like to think of our mentoring program as a “Road Map.”
Hinesight recognizes that every young person is different, with different needs and different aspirations. One mentee may need to work on one area more than the other first, that’s okay! The relationship that our mentors form with our mentees is cultivated in order to find the best place to start, the most exciting way to approach and the most effective way to achieve positive results.
Our mentoring program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one year. We train our mentors with National Mentor Resource designed volunteer training sessions hosted and facilitated by our staff at Hinesight.
The starting point may vary based on the needs of our mentees but the finish line is the same: Hinesight wants to help form well rounded young adults who thrive in and out of school!
